Medical Monitoring
Expanding on their many publications about medical cost damages, in 1999 Dr. Brookshire and Mr. Barrett began investigating the methodologies and techniques appropriate for the calculation of anticipated medical screening costs. As a result of working on a large class-action case involving plaintiff exposure to toxic substances, they developed the decision-tree model now used in such cases. Their collaborative research on this area of damages was first presented at the annual meetings of the Western Economic Association International in 2001. This work lead to the publication of "The Forensic Economics of Medical Monitoring Protocols" in the Litigation Economics Review, 5(2). Additional research on this topic was published in the 2005 text Developments in Litigation Economics (London:Elsevier). Finally a paper was given at the 2008 meetings at the Western Economic Association meetings in Honolulu, which focuses upon medical monitoring issues at trial, and this paper will soon be published in The Earnings Analyst.
